TO 2013 & 2014:  The Road Not Taken

1/1/2014

This past year has been SPECTACULAR in so many ways! When I think about all the events that have taken place in my life - whether good or bad - they have always put me on the right path and in the end I am always and forever grateful for all the things I have done or experienced. Events in our lives makes us stronger - they improve us.  When I am at my lowest I know there is goodness on the other side of it all and when I am at my best I thank the heavens and remind myself that to receive is to give.  There is a poem by Robert Frost that many of us may know called THE ROAD NOT TAKEN. I remember when I was 20, my sister, Jeanne, and I sat on the beach and memorized this poem together.  When life kicks you or embraces you - remember this poem and be grateful for who you are!!!
Robert Frost (1874–1963).  Mountain Interval.  1920.
The Road Not Taken

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
.Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Grow with the Flow!

That is why, when you look outside around, you can see yourself. - Thich Nhat Hanh
During a recent, personal hike I was truly made motionless by a group of daisies that showed me how to grow with the flow.  Sometimes, when we are frustrated or "stuck" in life it is hard to let our egos go and just let life happen - to surrender ourselves from our goals, our pain or even our desires! When I saw these along the river bank I took pause and was thankful for the gift and message the Universe was providing me at that very moment.

These daisies manage to survive along the Garcia River Bank where (literally) gale force winds off the Pacific Ocean tunnel their way up and into these flowers on daily basis in the Spring.  If these guys can survive this constant barrage then maybe I can (and you can), too! And even though one of the flower heads in this photo looks like it has "gone" with the wind - it still manages to hang on in all it's humble beauty... in fact, I find the blossom with the "least" amount of life the most ALIVE.  I was very moved by these and still am while typing this blog.  I am very thankful for this.
